Carcassi's Dynamic Markings

Mensaje por mikeopmusic » Mar Jun 06, 2017 2:52 pm

Hello everyone,

I have a question on some of the dynamics markings in Carcassi's Etudes (Op. 60). In No. 1, there are two markings I am unfamiliar with - pf and rf. Some have suggested that pf is the same as p/f but this doesn't seem correct as there is no repeat. Other have suggested that rf denotes a rest stroke? Does anyone have any information on these markings?

Thanks for you help!

Hello. This is a Spanish forum, maybe for that reason no one replied.

One of the definitions of 'pf' is playing soft immediately followed by loud (the other one is pianoforte). 'Rf' means Rinforzando (reinforced, but not as much as an accent).
